According to the Puranas, the gods of the heavens started austerities to save themselves from the tyranny of the demons.
Satisfied with the worship, Mahamaya Devi bathed in the water of Manas Sarobar, left the black color and took the form of the black goddess Kaushiki .

In the same way, the goddess killed two demons named Nishumbha and saved the gods on this date.
Since then, in order to eradicate sins, Mother Kaushiki is worshiped in various places including Tarapith.Kaushiki Amābasyā means star night. This date is a special night of Tantra practice.
On this special day , the devotee Bama Khyapa attained Siddhi by worshiping Ma Tara under the Shimul tree in the Mahasmashana of Tarapith.

It is believed that all the desires of the mind are fulfilled when they worship their mother at Tarapith on this special date. This is the reason why thousands of pilgrims come to Tarapith to get mother's blessings on that very day. According to the interpretation of Tantra Shastra, bathing in the river Dwarka with the worship of Mother Tara on this date brings Good luck of back hundreds of births. ..
